‘Cane Records, one of the first student-run record labels,

was created in the fall of 1993 by a small group of ambitious graduate and undergraduate students in the Music Business and Entertainment Industries program at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music. This organization gives students hands on experience in all facets of running an independent record label. ‘Cane Records has released 25 albums in the 20 years since it was founded and has been nominated by the Independent Music Awards for ‘Best Compilation’ for their 2012 release, Breaking the Surface, Vol. 2. In 2016, For the Record won the Independent Music Award for 'Best Compilation.' The genres found in each release range from rock to classical, latin funk, holiday music, R&B, and more. ‘Cane Records continues to be one of the leading student-run record labels in the country.
